Here are some of the authors who contributed to Headway Glasgow's book "All Blocks Gone".  The book was launched at a very successful event held in Bath Street's Venlaw Building on Tuesday.  Not everyone who had a poem or story in the book was able to attend, but it was really good to see so many writers and supporters there.  A great many of the first print run of books has been sold already but please contact the office if you want a copy.

Bag packing at Asda on Saturday, 1st December

Update.

Well done to everyone who helped with the bag packing at Asda last Saturday and to Rayne for organising it all.  Also, special thanks to the staff and customers of Asda for their very generous support.  The total collected was almost £900.

Brilliant!

................................................................

Headway volunteers will be helping customers with their bag packing at Asda in Newton Mearns this Saturday from 10am.  Remember to look out for them if you do your shopping there - and make them smile by putting some money in their buckets!

This is just one of a series of events organised to raise funds this winter.  Volunteers have also been out raising money at the St Mirren football ground and at Central Station, and there are other things planned.

Let us know if you can help.

Brief report on the 2012 AGM

Headway Glasgow had its 2012 AGM on the 31st of October.  Innes introduced the meeting by referring to the book by James Cracknell, the sportsman, and how this showed that serious brain injuries could happen to anyone, no matter how fit or strong.  Simon took us through the main points of the annual report (which will be available on this site soon) and the financial statement.  Headway had another busy year with a wide range of activities offered and taken up.  There had been good turn outs at the drop-in meetings over the year.  Groups such as the Art Group and Writing Group had continued to meet regularly and Headway members had produced some very impressive work, including the soon-to-be-published book of Headway members' writing.  There will be more on the book in a future post.  As always, finances were tight as we are very dependent on a small number of significant donors.  Fundraising by staff and volunteers made an important contribution to Headway's funds and Simon outlined some of the impressive things that people had done through sponsorships, events and collections.  Also, the dedication of volunteers and staff was essential to the effectiveness of Headway Glasgow and a number of fundraisers and volunteers received certificates to mark their contributions.

Members of the committee were elected and will have their first meeting on the 14th of November.

Collecting

Update:
The collections at Glasgow Central station this week were very successful.  Headway Glasgow is very grateful to our volunteers who stood for hours in the cold station and to those who donated so generously.

Look out for our can collections if you are in Glasgow Central Station next week. Collectors will be there on the 22nd and 23rd of October.  Further collections are planned including one at the St Mirren ground in Paisley.

New website

We are working on this new website.  We will add more content to the site over the coming months.  Could we make it more informative for new members or more useful for people who have been coming to Headway for a while?

Please let us know if you have any comments or suggestions for improvements.

We would also like to hear from you if you have any problems using it.

Alan
